BUFFALO, NY – September 27, 2017 – Daniel Porreca, executive director of HEALTHeLINK, was elected chair of the 2017-18 board of directors for the Strategic Health Information Exchange Collaborative (SHIEC). HEALTHeLINK is a founding member of SHIEC and Porreca has served on its board of directors since 2014, most recently as vice chair.
SHIEC is the national trade association of health information exchanges (HIEs) and strategic business and technology partners. The more than 50 SHIEC member HIE organizations from across the country manage and provide for the secure digital exchange of data by medical, behavioral, and social service providers to improve the health of the communities they serve. Collectively, SHIEC members serve almost 75% of the U.S. population.
Porreca has been leading HEALTHeLINK since 2007 and under his leadership, HEALTHeLINK is one of the leading HIEs in the United States. In addition to SHIEC, Porreca serves on the board of the Buffalo Translational Consortium for the University at Buffalo Clinical and Translational Science Institute. He also serves on the New York State Commissioner of Health’s Transparency, Evaluation, and HIT workgroup.
